Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are mandated to perform the major triad functions of instruction, research and extension. St. Paul University Philippines is tasked to be primarily responsible in advancing the frontiers of knowledge through research. As a University, SPUP is dedicated to research as a means to attain quality and excellence in the delivery of its educational services. Moreover, as a Catholic University, research in SPUP "recognizes and respects the principles and methods of each individual discipline, so long as the rights of the individual and of the community are preserved within the confines of the truth and the common good" (Ex Corde Ecclesiae, 47). In order to promote and enhance the development of a strong research culture, the faculty members are expected to develop in themselves the needed knowledge, skills and attitude to do research.
