It’s time for St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) to chart and pursue new directions for the next five academic years.

Paulinian administrators, faculty and staff convened at the Mere Madeleine Hall, Learning Resource Center, SPUP on June 2-5, 2010, to design the blueprint for the University for Academic Years 2010-2011 to 2014-2015.

With the theme “Blazing New Trails for SPUP Onwards to the 21st Century: A Quest for Deepened Paulinian Spirituality, Excellence, Professionalism and Stewardship,” the preopening program was attended by 300 participants.

The four-day affair was aimed at giving flesh to the strategic directions tailored by SPUP administrators during their two-part Strategic Planning-Workshop held on Feb. 11-12 and March 22-24, respectively.

Engaged participants

Before the operational planning workshop, Sister Remy Angela Junio, SPC, SPUP President and Chancellor of the St. Paul University System, presented the SPUP Directions for the next five years.

Sr. Remy encouraged the participants to ‘think out of the box’, providing exercises in backcasting during the workshop.

“Every Paulinian should own the outputs of these innovative processes,” said the University President. “It’s difficult and frightening to get out of the box alone, but when we go together it would be challenging and less difficult.”

Inputs considered

Results of significant researches were also disclosed during the preliminary activities, with Dr. Emolyn Iringan presenting ‘Student Engagement’, and Dr. Mercita Pamittan revealing the figures for ‘Customer Satisfaction.’

After a video presentation on climate change, Sr. Nicole de Marie Dabalus, SPC, Vice President for Academics, introduced “Thinking_Out_of_the_Box-C and Out_of_the_Box-A Paradigm Parable.”

With the University looking forward to a new academic landscape in the near future, the organizers—led by Dr. Jesus Pizarro, Director of Research, Planning and Publications Office—showed a video presentation touching issues on 21st Century Education.

Relevant outputs unfolded

Grouped into five, the participants, regardless of rank and designation, came up with master and action plans which were presented and critiqued on the last day.

Sidelight

The preopening program for A.Y. 2010-2011 likewise featured the presentation of the new SPUP Organizational set-up. The administrators, faculty, staff and personnel were also presented to the assembly.

Meanwhile, the new employees were greeted by the SPUP family with the welcome rites led by Sr. Remy Angela Junio, SPC, and assisted by Dr. Ma. Teresa Maguigad, Director of the Center for Professional Development and Special Services.
