SPUS 6th anniversary opens with Hawaiian feast

The 6th anniversary celebration of the St. Paul University System (SPUS) commenced with a festive Luao, Hawaiian feast, held at the University Pool, St. Paul University Philippines, Tuguegarao City, on March 7.
None other than Sr. Zeta Caridad Rivero, SPC, Provincial Superior of the SPC Congregation, graced the opening celebration, which was attended by the presidents and administrators.
SPUS’ Luao was highlighted by the symbolic rite of medium-size floaters pushed onto the water by each president of the SPUS institutions. The large floater with seven-lighted candles, symbolizing the SPUS member-institutions, was pushed by Sr. Zeta Caridad Rivero,SPC, Provincial Superior and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the System.
Participating institutions were SPU Manila, SPU Quezon City, SPU Surigao, SPU Dumaguete, SPU Iloilo, SPUP, and the newest member, St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur (SPCIS).
The program featured Hawaiian dances which were performed by the SPUP Dance Troupe led by Mr. Charles Decena.
Engaging and amusing the participants, Sr. Nicole de Marie Dabalus,SPC, SPUP Vice President for Academics, taught some Hula lessons, while an SPUP alumnus performed poi*.
*Poi, Maori word for "ball" on a cord, is a form of juggling where the balls are swung around the body.
