Robert P. Fugaban, Vice President of the Supreme Board of Students (SBS) of St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) and a 3rd-year BSE-English student, made it to the top 81 Ayala Young Leaders for 2010.

After hurdling the tough screening and selection process, Fugaban was given the chance to attend the 12th National Ayala Young Leaders Congress at San Miguel Training Center, Alfonso, Cavite, on Feb. 9-12, 2010.

Fugaban was one of the Ten Outstanding Student Leaders of Tuguegarao City for SY 2008-2009. Recently, he was elected President of the Supreme Board of Students (SBS) for SY 2010-1011.

Theme of the congress, on its 12th successful year, was “Ako: Pagbabago!”

Efren Peñaflorida, 2009 CNN Hero of the Year and Founder of the Dynamic Teen Co. DTC, is the keynote speaker.

Other forum speakers included South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Reyes, Probe Productions President Cecilia Lazaro and Rocked Philippines founder Gang Badoy.

What AYLC is

Ayala Young Leaders Congress is a three-and-a-half-day summit that engages participants in workshops, lectures, outdoor activities, plenary sessions and discussions, which are designed to hone the students’ leadership skills.

Rigorous screening

Before an outstanding student is shortlisted, he/she should be nominated by his/her school.

Nominees have to be: Filipino citizens, 25 years old or younger; bona fide regular undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor’s degree for the first time; and in the top 25 percentile of their college.1

Congress participants are selected on the bases of academic performance; strong record of service to their school and/ or community; achievements in international, national, local or school organizations; and leadership impact.

This year, 126 learning institutions all over the country sent 610 nominees. Of the 81 qualifiers, 36 come from Luzon, 21 from Visayas, nine from Mindanao and 15 from the National Capital Region.

After the summit

Being a delegate to AYLC, the participants become members of the Ayala Young Leaders Alliance (AYLA), which now has 801 members.

AYLA members share a common love for the country by being ready to serve as committed leaders in their respective communities.
