Date posted: 02.25.2010

A Filipino Male Choir – named after Rev. Fr. John Van de Stein, a CICM missionary priest and the group’s founder – performed at the Mother Madeleine Hall, Jan. 29, 2010.

The John Van de Stein Choir (JVSC), formerly known as the Manila Cathedral Choir, was invited to entertain Paulinians and guests by Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Dr. Blessida Diwa.

A few Paulinian alumni were among them. The 24-member choir resonated 19 pieces that included classical Filipino, sacred and liturgical music.

Before the three-part concert started, Atty. Oscar Palabyab, DOT Undersecretary and brainchild of JVSC’s Cagayan-Ilocos Roadshow, delivered the background of the group.

The group was led by Bienvenido “Doodz” Policarpio, conductor and alumnus of St. Paul’s School of Makati, along with Usec Palabyab, Musical Arranger Engr. Conrado Diez, and their major benefactor, Mr. George Balagtas.
