vol02_162010_thumb01In an effort to bring Christ closer to the students, the Christian Formation (CF) Office conducted the “Seminar-Workshop on Catechesis, Methodology, and Religious Instruction” at the Mother Madeleine Hall, October 24, 2009.

In her talk, Sr. Mary Rosella Faypon,SPC, VP for Christian Formation , emphasized the need to go back to the contents of the National Catechetical Directory of the Philippines 2007 (NCDP), which provide for the criteria for an effective catechesis.

vol02_162010_thumb02Sr. Faypon echoed the challenge posed by the NCDP to “close the gap” between the Christian doctrine and the ordinary daily life-experience of the Filipino Catholics (NCDP 240).

“This ‘closing the gap’ can only be accomplished by a cooperative pastoral effort including bishops, priests, religious, lay catechists as well as Catholic educational institutions,” she said.

Two other speakers gave flesh to the methodology proposed by the NCDP through their teaching demonstration. Mrs. Nonette Genobili of the SPUP Grade School Department shared with the grade school teacher-participants how she would effectively teach the lesson “The Eucharist as Communion” to grade school pupils. Mr. Moises Calucag, a CF faculty, showed the high school teacher-participants and catechists a more active presentation of the topic “Born of a Woman.”
