Videoconfab on disabled children’s rights held

With the theme “Tungo sa Katuparan ng Karapatan ng PWD’s,” the Inclusive Education Videoconference was conducted on July 27,2009 at the Knowledge for Development Center (KDC), Learning Resource Center, St. Paul University Philippines, Tuguegarao City.
This was spearheaded by the Philippine Council of Cheshire Homes for the Disabled (PhilCOCHED) in partnership with the World Bank - Knowledge for Development Center, St. Paul University Philippines, and the Department of Education (DepEd).
The activity was anchored on introducing a new perspective on the Philippine Education System while exchanging current practices and issues in education, particularly for children with disabilities and other students belonging to the vulnerable sector.
This videoconference was attended by some DepEd administrators, SPED teachers, elementary teachers, parents and the immediate family members of children with disabilities.
Richard D. Arceño, the keynote speaker and national coordinator of PhilCOCHED, discussed creating awareness on inclusive education among stakeholders, strengthening local organizations and partners, improving access to inclusive education, health management and rehabilitation, and improving economic opportunities for the parents and immediate members of children with disabilities.
This videoconference materialized as the KDC Central Philippine University of Iloilo, KDC St. Paul University Philippines of Tuguegarao, and KDC University of Southeastern Philippines of Davao linked with the main site KDC in Ortigas Center, Pasig City where DepEd Manila and PhilCOCHED were based.
