Typhoon Pepeng batters SPUP

Date posted: 10.19.2009

Typhoon Pepeng 01The sisters were marooned at the SPC Convent. The quadrangle and the other low-lying areas were submerged. The environs in those areas were punctuated by the stink produced by the decaying leaves under murky water. The trees and plants were whipped by the typhoon’s gust. The LRC Building, the Centennial Chapel’s Tower, and the St. Therese Dormitory were stripped of pieces of plywood or galva.

These were the scenarios at St. Paul University Philippines when Typhoon Pepeng intermittently lashed Cagayan and the rest of Northern Luzon from October 3-8, 2009.

Typhoon Pepeng 02With the typhoon’s continual rainfall, the University found a way to solve the problem as its maintenance personnel mounted a wooden pathway along the submerged areas so the Paulinians didn’t need to wade through the filthy water to do their job as usual: the students attended their classes, the teachers met their students, and the administrators reported at their offices.

Meanwhile, the University, through its Disaster Management Team, is extending a helping hand to its employees and students who were adversely affected by Typhoon Pepeng.
