The recipients of the DepEd Summer Certificate Program for Non-Specialist Teachers of Araling Panlipunan, Filipino and Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) which was conducted at St. Paul University Philippines during the summer terms of 2008 and 2009 graduated last May 21, 2009 in a ceremony held at the Mother Madeleine Hall of the Learning Resource Center of SPUP.

Some 215 non-specialist teachers of the three identified subject areas received their Certificates of Proficiency in their specific subject area after having completed the requirements of the program which ran for two summer terms.

The said program was launched by the Department of Education Region 02 in summer 2007 starting the training with non-speacialist teachers of Mathematics and Science. After the first batch had graduated, the training continued with the second batch, this time with non-specialist teachers in Araling Panlipunan, Filipino and MAPEH as recipients. The program was aimed at equipping teachers with knowledge on content and strategies to better teach the subjects assigned to them which are not their field of specialization in college.

The Regional Director of DepEd Region 02, Dr. Benito S. Tumamao who was invited to give his inspirational message posed a big challenge to the graduates to fulfill the objectives of the program – that of teaching efficiently and effectively the subjects which they were trained to teach now that they are declared authorities of the subjects by virtue of the Certificate of Proficiency that they have merited.
