“If I were to study again, I would study at St. Paul.”

These were the words of Dr. Benito Tumamao, DepED Region 02 Director, when he addressed the seventeen students of the Science Agri-Based Entrepreneurial High School (SABEHS) at the St. Paul University Gymnasium on July 27, 2009 for the first SABEHS graduation ceremony.

None other than Sister Remy Angela Junio, SPC, University President, and Dr. Tumamao handed over the diploma to the students.

The Science Agri-Based Entrepreneurial High School (SABEHS) at San Jose Baggao, Cagayan, was the brainchild of Sr. Regina Cobrador, SPC, the former Director of the Community Extension Services. On July 11, 2006, it was approved by the Department of Education (DepEd) under the Alternative Learning System (ALS). In September 2006, Sr. Remy Angela Junio, SPC, granted its operation as an Extension School under the supervision of the SPUP High School Department. The school formally opened its doors on September 25, 2006.

SABEHS offers a three-year curriculum which fulfills the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) requirements of the DepEd in terms of time allotment and unit credit for academic subjects offered.

At the institution, the students became functionally literate as they learned the basic literacy skills along with the agricultural and entrepreneurial skills. During their home visit schedules the students shared their knowledge and skills to their parents.

As part of the School’s livelihood program, the students took part in projects, such as: vegetable gardening, tilapia breeding native poultry raising, noodle–making, and nutribrittle production. Moreover, the fourth year students have undergone a one-year “On-The-Job Training” (OJT) in the SPUP farm located at Estefania, Amulung.

Spearheaded by Sr. Donna Belle Cadigal, SPC, Director for Community Extension Services and Sr, Norma Michaela Que, SPC, Principal of the SPUP High School Department – the event was graced by the officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 02, the sisters of the SPUP Community, the SPUP academic community, the barangay officials of San Jose Baggao and Estefania Amulung, the parents of the graduates, and the SPUP high school students.
