SPUP hosts 3rd Regional Youth Leaders’ Conference

RegionalYouthLeadersConfereceTo strengthen the youth’s participation in the society and to empower them to become the prime movers of the country, SPUP sponsored a conference for youth leaders.

St. Paul University Philippines conducted the 3rd Regional Youth Leaders’ Conference on September 21-22, 2009 at Mother Madeleine Hall, St. Paul University Philippines, Tuguegarao City.

With the theme, “One Goal, One Region, Reach Out, Take Action”, the event was spearheaded by the Supreme Board of Students in cooperation with the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP).

95 participants, which composed of high school and college student leaders, Sangguniang Kabataan members, out-of-school youth, parish youth organizations, socio-civic organizations and National Service Training Program (NSTP) facilitators and students of Region 2, attended the two-day conference.

The two-day conference comprised of several activities that paved way to: (1)build unity and collaboration among the youth, (2) come up with plans that will address issues and concerns of the Region, (3) foster camaraderie, leadership and unity among the participants, and (4) establish linkage with government agencies, educational institutions, sangguniang kabataan and socio-civic organizations.

Sister Nicole de Marie Dabalus, Vice-President for Academics, and Councilor Ross Resuello of Tuguegarao City, welcomed the participants.

Professor Serafin A. Arviola Jr., Director for Youth Affairs, United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP) and Judge Aurora Recina, President, United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) also addressed the participants.

During the first day, Atty. Alexander Lacson, author of the bestselling book 12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do to Help Our Country, shared about Good Citizenship through the Millennium Development Goals. Mr. Nicanor Perlas, awardee, United Nations Environmental Program, Global 500 Awards and Alternative Noble Prize awardee, shared his knowledge in the plenary session. Atty. Egon Cayosa, Former President, IBP- Region II, discussed Ethical and Moral Leadership.

On the second day, plenary sessions were conducted: Mr. Marco Flores, Operation Director, Gawad Kalinga-Bayan-Anihan on Poverty and Hunger Eradication and Mr. Daryl Tadique, National Treasurer of UNAP introduced the Stand Up, Take Action (SUTA) Campaign. Mr. Randymax Bulaquit, UNYAP Region 2 Coordinator, initiated the planning session on Stand Up, Take Action (SUTA) Campaign. After which, the participants presented their outputs.

Finally, Mr. Mark Adriano, a former student of the University, shared his ideas about the AKO MISMO Campaign.
