The NCCA Regional Training for Teachers of Music

The School of Education conducted a three-day training for teachers of Music in the region in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) which sponsored the activity last May 4-6, 2009 at the Teleconferencing Room of St. Paul University Philippines.
The seminar-workshop provided the teacher trainees with the basic concepts of music as well as the rudimentary skills necessary for musical performance and appreciation as it aimed to enhance Music teachers' competencies in terms of content, skills and teaching strategies.
This is to make the teaching-learning of music more interesting and meaningful.
Dr. Blesilda Unite, the Regional Supervisor for Music of DepEd Region 02 and Mr. Rogelio Fermin, MAPEH instructor of St. Paul University Philippines were the main resource speakers in the seminar. Lectures on the trends in Music Education, and on Music as a basic component of the
Basic Education Curriculum were given as preliminary activities; afterwhich, lecture-demonstration workshops were conducted to illustrate the importance of the basic elements of music such as sound properties, melody, rhythm, notation, tonality, timbre, range of voices and textures.
The seminar progressed with the lecture-demonstration sessions focusing on the use of different musical instruments where participants were grouped for a workshop on identifying different musical instruments based on the musical excerpts which they were asked to listen to.
The seminar-workshop culminated with a performance-based assessment of what the participants had learned from the lectures and other activities.
The seminar was graced by the presence of Ms. Abigail Lazarro, NCCA Culture and Arts Officer, who monitored the conduct of the activity for three (3) days
