SPUP supports Media Cultural Awareness Confab

St. Paul University Philippines has supported a two-day conference initiated by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCAA) with the participation of its two faculty members: Mr. Joseph Dayag, Publications Adviser, and Mr. Rocky Rodriguez, Grade School MAPEH teacher.

Through NCCA's Sub-committee on Communication (NCCOM), the Region 02 Media Cultural Awareness Conference was held in Water World Resort and Hotel at Ramon, Isabela on June 25-26, 2009. This was attended by media practitioners, school media representatives and government information and cultural officers.

The conference highlighted the talks on: Local Government Cultural Agenda by Mrs. Belen Goloy from LGU Cauayan City; Globalization, Media and Culture by University of the Philippines professor Dr. Aleli Quirante; Ethics and Values of Media Practitioners by NCCA - NCCOM Director Juan Dayang; Media Advocacies and Coverage on Culture and the Arts by NCCA-NCCOM Chairman Fred Gabot; NGO Community Participation in Cultural Programs by ISU Cultural Officer Dr. Elena Toquero; Role of Media in Cultural Promotion by NCCA-NCCOM Vide-Chairman Pilar Banaag; and, Region 02 Cultural Tourism by Dr. Blessilda Diwa, Department of Tourism Regional Director.

The conference aimed at enhancing the media's role in promoting and disseminating culture and arts along with globalization.
