Date posted: 07.13.2009

SPUP on-the-job trainees (OJT’s) will soon have a chance to be accepted at any of the 48 companies owned and managed by JG Summit Holdings Inc.

This possibility loomed on the horizon last July 01, 2009 when the University President together with some school administrators visited Mr. Nicasio Lim of JG Summit Holdings Inc. in his office at Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

Through the constant coordination done by Sr. Remy Angela Junio SPC, SPUP President, with Mr. Lim, a distinguished SPUP alumnus and executive of the giant firm, SPUP is now considered for a long-term partnership.

Having discussed the mismatch between the graduates’ skills and those required by the industry, Mr. Lim divulged that their firm has just recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with five partner schools in Manila which will provide manpower to JG Summit companies.

Mr. Lim revealed the possibility of accepting OJT’s from SPUP as JG Summit is engaged in various businesses. He mentioned that CARSUMCO, a sugar milling company located at Piat, Cagayan, can absorb OJT’s considering its proximity to the university. Moreover, he singled out that HRTM OJT’s may be accepted at Crown Hotel or Holiday Inn; whereas, Engineering OJT’s may be accommodated by Digitel and Sun Cellular.

He stressed that a partnership may be finalized soon provided that the curricula of the said courses are tailor-fit to the industry’s requirements.

It must be noted that three SPUP graduates are undergoing management training at the conglomerate.
