ISO matters cleared; Internal Auditors trained

WHAT INTERNATIONAL STANDARDIZATION ORGANIZATION (ISO)really is, or what external and internal auditors actually do, are queries that have lingered in the minds of many SPUP employees before - but not until July 21, 2009.

These queries were subtly addressed by Mr. Rene C. Julian, ISO Consultant and Representative of TUV Rheinland, during the ISO Orientation and ISO Internal Auditors Training on July 21-22, 2009 at the Board Room of Saint Paul University Philippines, Tuguegarao City.

Attended by the administrators, the internal auditors and the aspiring internal auditors, the ISO Orientation was enlightening as several matters about the raison d’ etre of ISO were clarified.

After revisiting ISO 9001, Mr. Julian gave an overview of audit and discussed its mechanics. He emphasized that TUV Rheinland and Saint Paul University Philippines are – in the real sense of ISO - partners for the latter’s journey from conformity with the standards and requirements to a performance-driven system.

Likewise, he reiterated that ISO audits are aimed at improving the extent of management system’s conformity with standards and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

“It is neither about blaming people nor finding faults; but, it is evaluating objectively the flaws of the organization’s systems, processes and procedures,” Mr. Julian articulated.

“After all, people (the employees of the university) are products of processes – recruitment, training, etc.,” he added.

During the training for internal auditors, the speaker underscored that the auditors’ role is to generate meaningful and substantial inputs that will help the management to improve its systems, processes and procedures.
