“Honor is not given to the one being honored but to the one honoring.”

St. Paul University Gym resonated with the words of St. Thomas Aquinas last June 17, 2009 as SPUP recognized two of its alumni: Mr. Richard Bacud and Miss Krystel Mae Pasion - who have recently received national recognitions.

Right after the Holy Spirit Mass, the two were called on stage to receive their new laurel. Specifically, Mr. Bacud was given a plaque of recognition while Miss Pasion was awarded a PGMA Medal for Academic and Leadership Excellence. They were honored by Sr. Remy Angela Junio, SPC, SPUP President and Sr. Adelina Portillo, SPC, SPUP Vice-President for Administration.

Mr. Richard Bacud, alumnus of the School of Education for his undergraduate and master’s degree, was recently cited as the Most Outstanding Male Principal of the Philippines for exemplifying excellence in leading the biggest non-central school in the region - Cataggaman Elementary School (CES).

It is noteworthy that Mr. Bacud, who in 2001 started as principal of Larion Alto Elementary School, implemented various innovative projects (such as Project READ and PEPAC: Project on the Eradication of Pediculosis among school Children). Later, when he was designated principal of CES, he put up the school’s Guidance Center and an e-learning Center, which has advanced the school with the eventual establishment of its E-library and Student Tracking System.

Through his leadership marked by excellence and selfless service, CES has been given various recognitions such as Most Functional Science & Mathematics Park, Brigada Eskwela National Award, and Best Kabayani Park. Guided by its slogan “No Child Left Behind,” CES is staunch in its pursuit of academic excellence.

On the other hand, Miss Krystel Mae Pasion, alumna (BS Pharmacy) of the School of Health Sciences, was one of the recipients of the PGMA Medal of Excellence which was given by no less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Such distinct award is only bestowed on students who are outstanding in academics and still active in leading others in terms of community service. Aside from being known as a dynamic student-leader, Miss Pasion graduated cum laude last March.
