Dios nikamu!
Welcome to Academic Year 2008-2009! We look ahead to a year of collaboration, cooperation and teamwork between and among units and persons within the SPUP Community as this is a simple manifestation of our Advocacy on Good Citizenship and of our thrust that is Providing Quality Catholic Paulinian Education in a Caring Environment.
I am aware that many of us have been into so much fun and enjoyment during the summer break going places, swimming, trekking, camping and other fun activities with our families and friends. But, there were also many of us whose passion was "business as usual" like pursuing graduate and post-graduate studies, attending seminars, updating records and modules, and on-the-job training or practicum.
Whatever our pursuits were, we are now back to our real business, TEACHING for teachers and STUDYING for students. We are back to school for a common purpose that is, TO HELP ONE ANOTHER BUILD EACH ONE'S FUTURE. Let us not forget that we all learn from one another and we inspire each other to be good children of God as well as to be good citizens of the world.
To start off hence, the Office of Student Affairs, together with the Supreme Board of Students, will initiate activities for the month of June. Please be guided by these.
- Leaders' Orientation and Planning (June 5-6) - this is to orient the new set of SBS Officers about their roles and responsibilities as student-leaders as well as to finalize the Action Plans. Team Building Activities are also to be carried out. Prominent and credible speakers are invited to inspire these young leaders.
- University-wide Flag Raising Ceremony (June 12) - this is to manifest the patriotism of every Paulinian. The Grade School Drum and Lyre shall be main performers and leaders.
- College Freshmen Orientation Program (June 14) - this is to acquaint the new college Paulinians about the academic as well as discipline guidelines of the university.
- Symposium on Environment (June 21) - this is to gather Paulinian environment envoys to analyze the current environmental concerns especially those that directly affect the Province of Cagayan and the City of Tuguegarao and to draft actions to solve or lessen environmental problems. This activity is in coordination with the Students' Actions Vital to the Environment and Mother Earth (SAVE ME) Movement - SPUP Chapter.
These are just June activities that are initiated by the OSA. The SBS Council and Schools as well as clubs and other units of the university have their own activities which are all geared towards the total formation of every Paulinian. And of course, each day is a continuing "ronda" of the DSA checking the decorum of students especially in wearing the university uniform with the accessories that go and do not go with it.
For this academic year, I pray for full collaboration of everyone because it is only in doing so that we will be able to live by our quality policy and understand its very essence.
Part of the song "Welcome to the Family" is the best that I can leave to you in closing which goes:
"may we learn to love each other more in each new day
may words of love be on our lips in everything we say
may the spirit melt our hearts and teach us how to pray
that we might be a true family."
It is only in willingly making ourselves become part of the Paulinian family that we can unite to the full extent and proclaim the Good News. Let us share our lives with others in the name of priceless service.
