MULTIMEDIA CENTER
In the modern digital age, e-learning had been a part of traditional teaching practice. Generally, e-learning refers to any computer-based educational methodology - computers used as a tool for instruction or the presentation of lecture i.e. power point presentations; or computer-based learning materials are used for teaching i.e. multimedia tutorial CD's or courseware. Information technology offers a powerful set of tools that the teacher and learner can use to facilitate
the teaching and learning process.
The Multimedia Center is a laboratory room for both functions. Students can access CD-ROM based reading materials, which include animations and demonstrations, interactive quizzes and the like to supplement traditional lectures in the class. The exercises are game-like and fun, thus, motivating students to learn. CD ROMs are user-friendly and self-contained, hence, may be used as temporary substitutes for faculty absences. Drill-and-practice tutorial programs also contain simulations which re-create events and situations in simplified versions for students to better understand procedures or processes of events.
On the other hand, students and faculty can also use the multimedia presentation rooms to enhance the presentation of lectures. Not only does multimedia improve the over all design and presentation, it also saves time spent for writing and copying lectures for both faculty and students respectively, which may be allocated for more meaningful and fruitful discussion of the subject matter. The presentations in digital format can also be easily stored, reproduced or disseminated via the internet.
Multimedia refers to applications and technologies that manipulate and integrates the different media of information specifically text, data, images, voice and full motion video objects or animation. Aside from assisting instruction, it develops computer skills essential in modern society. Is also encourages students to be more involved in the management of their studies.
In recognition of the importance of science and technology in the development of nations, the Science Centrum was instituted for the promotion of science and technology awareness and interest among the youth and the general populace. It has been noted that the rich countries spend billions in scientific and technological research to remain avant-garde in economic development. And it is also an indubitable fact that Philippines had its fair share in technological
advancement as many Filipino inventors had been renowned for their remarkable feats. The University believes that Filipinos never lack the ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness in the fields of discovery and invention. Hence, the Science Centrum was conceived to tap the inquisitive minds and innovativeness of the young Filipino and unleash their full potential.
The Science Centrum is an interactive science museum that provides students hands-on scientific experiments for them to fully understand and appreciate the laws of nature. It aims to implement educational programs and trainings especially to the young to create a science-cultured Filipino citizenry for the development of the country.
A mini-olympic size swimming pool has been put up for the swimming lessons of students in their Physical Education classes. The facility is also open to the public provided they have applied for membership. Near the pool are nipa huts and a mini-pavilion ready for use during swimming parties held in the University.
One of the primary sports that the University promotes is swimming because swimming is more than a sport, it is a life skill. As a form of exercise on the other hand, it is a very strenuous activity yet harmless. It keeps your whole body moving unlike in bowling, without hurting or banging of bodies like in basketball. And since, it requires strategic breathing in water, it improves our cardiovascular fitness.
The University Swimming Pool is located at the right field facing the University quadrangle. It is covered with a net much like an aviary or a greenhouse to protect swimmers from the heat of the sun and to keep the pool clean from other debris. The swimming pool has a standard depth of 6 feet. May it be for sports, recreational bathing or physical education, the pool is open to students for a minimum fee.
The University Swimming Pool provides all the necessary facilities for swimming such as toilet rooms, dressing lockers and showers. It also has full time lifeguards to ensure safety of the swimmers as well as to supervise students who are just starting to learn how to swim. And because general safety is the primary concern of the university in all physical activities, the pool regulations are conspicuously placed in the pool area.
