FACILITIES
LANGUAGE CENTER
The Language Center located at the ground floor of the Father Louis Chauvet (FLC) building is used for language skills development for both local and foreign students. It is equipped with audio/video tapes, cassette recorder, a television set, microphones and language books. The Center offers short-term courses in English and Chinese Mandarin.
With the rapid exchange of culture and ideas effected by globalization, communication had been a critical element to successfully initiate the full integration of peoples and economies. English is now fast becoming the dominant global language. However, with its adaptation of non-English speaking nations, the English language, with its dynamic nature has evolved into varieties of English e.g. Taglish, Jap-English, etc. The Language Center provides rigorous training for students to speak and write in the English language and maintain this competitive edge of Filipinos. This includes among others, cross-cultural variation to which language is closely tied up. This is especially responsive to the booming call center industry in the country. In the general perspective, the Center aims to equip students with proper, effective and functional communication skills to be more globally competitive.
The Center also plans to offer training courses for the other major international languages e.g. Spanish, Japanese etc.,that are currently in demand and are equally becoming a vernacular in certain parts of the world. The entry of foreign investors in the Philippines requires executives to learn some basic language of such investors to facilitate communication. In response to globalization, the Language Center was established.
In any educational institution, the School canteen serves to take care of the health and well-being of the students and the general school community. As such, the SPUP school canteen is strict in its policy in terms of menu selection, cleanliness and food handling practices. The school canteen also prevents children from buying food from outside vendors and peddlers.
The SPUP school canteen is strategically
situated where it is conveniently accessible to all buildings especially the grade school pupils. Focusing on health and well being, it offers nutritious and well-balanced meals to students especially so because children and adolescents are experiencing fast psychological, social and physical development. Of course, the taste and affordability of the food and beverages also come in quality.
The SPUP canteen does not only sell quality food, it also provides a clean, cozy, and well-ventilated area where students can eat their snacks and meals.
The University Archives is a repository or collection of documents or other materials, usually of historical and/or rare value to the University. These include gifts, memorabilia of past presidents, administrators of the University, materials and other stuff that commemorate a significant event or person, among others. The Archives also has a special section about Tuguegarao, where the University was located. This space is allotted to preserve and exhibit documents, information
and other stuff about the history of Tuguegarao. Every thing was created by God hence everything including the most minute and trivial thing has a purpose. And thus, everything has a meaning.
The University is actively engaged in the preservation of its past. The Archives collects these historical things because there are matters which written words cannot express or relay. A knowledge of our past may help us avoid the mistakes of future years and it helps us understand ourselves better.
Adjacent to the School Canteen is the Boutique, a small shop were special and unique items customized for the students and constituents of St. Paul University are sold such as SPUP shorts, pants, T-shirts, key chains and other accessories. The shop also sells typical school needs of students such as papers, pens, pencils, test books, notebooks, etc. All these are made available so that students especially preschoolers need not go out of the university premises in case they
need some school items urgently.
Also, as much as the University puts equal emphasis on the spiritual growth of students, the boutique also offers religious items such as rosaries, prayer books and the like. A small but complete shop, the Boutique is the place to be when you need something while in the University.
