KNOWLEDGE FOR DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The Knowledge for Development Center or KDC at SPUP is one of eleven similar centers established by the World Bank in partnership with selected institutions in the country. It is the only KDC in Region 2. The collection is a rich source for research on development issues, including population, health, and sanitation. It includes books, audiovisual materials, access to a virtual library on the Internet, and assistive devices for persons with disabilities. The KDC regularly receives World Bank publications and project reports from the World Bank offices in Washington, DC and in Pasig. It also receives publications from other development agencies.
All KDCs are open to the public and offer the following services free of charge:
- Access to development-related publications by well-known academic and development institutions.
- Room use and on-line access to WB project documents, publications and reports.
- Internet access to development and research sites.
- Room use of special collection of CDs and videotapes on development issues.
- On-line access to the Global Jolis catalogue system that allows users to see the collection of around 60 World Bank Public Information Centers around the world.
- Copies of selected World Bank publications on the Philippines.
The KDC is also a venue for informed discussions such as videoconferences, focus group discussions, dialogues, for a, consultations, and knowledge sharing sessions.
The University Gymnasium is the venue for the physical education classes of the students particularly indoor sports and exercise. It also provides athletic facilities and sports equipment for physical training. Since the gym is an enclosed building with a protective roof, many other school related activities are held there.
Physical fitness is a must to both the young and old. The University provides a fitness center where students can take their regular physical exercise. Not only does exercise prevent diseases, it makes one feel good and look good.
Students can actually perform physical training in practically all areas in the university premises considering its spacious gardens. They can simply jog around the campus or exercise under any tree. The gardens in the University clean and freshen the air for breathing. Physical training and sports activities can also be held in the quadrangle as well as in the fields of the university grandstand. Sports bring people together, helps build teamwork or cooperation, instills discipline as well as promotes the spirit of camarederie among Paulinians.
